Block printing workshop
Reflecting on what belonging, coming together, and letting go really mean
I led a free block printing workshop at East New York Farms in October 2021. This community engagement is part of a seasonal event series hosted by Tea Arts and Culture, a non-profit organization committed to sharing tea through cultural programming in the city’s parks and gardens. Tea Arts and Culture is sponsored in part by the Brooklyn Arts Council.
Participants enjoyed a warm cup of tea, followed by a guided block printing activity. Together, we carved and printed different leaves, drawing inspiration from the foliage of the farm itself. Using reclaimed paper from Carriage House Paper in Williamsburg, participants printed their individual leaves and brought them together in an installation. Participants came away from this activity with their block prints and insights from the reflection prompts. This participatory project explored the themes of home, ecology, the arts, and social justice and invited participants to reflect on what belonging, coming together, and letting go really mean.
